The BILL Spend & Expense card is offered as part of the BILL expense management software platform. BILL’s Spend & Expense card was formerly known as Divvy before being acquired by BILL. It is sometimes referred to as the Bill Divvy Credit Card.
BILL Spend & Expense offers what is effectively a corporate credit card that comes with a unique rewards scheme and benefits package. Here’s what you’ll get:
While BILL’s corporate card program is similar to some financial services you might get from a bank, BILL itself is not a bank. Instead, the company partners with Cross River Bank to issue its corporate card.
Does BILL Spend & Expense deserve to be counted among the best business credit cards? Keep reading our full BILL Divvy corporate credit card review to see why we gave the card a solid 4.3/5 overall score.

Rewards Earning 4.0 |
Rewards Redemption 5.0 |
BILL Spend & Expense offers a flexible rewards structure. When you pay off your statements more frequently, you’ll earn rewards at a faster clip.
Three categories earn bonus points: restaurants, hotels, and recurring software subscriptions. The amount these categories earn will depend on your payoff schedule.
Pay off your bill weekly, and you’ll receive these earn rates for rewards:
For those set up to pay off statements twice a month, these are the earn rates:
If you choose a monthly payoff schedule, expect these earn rates:
We should point out that you’ll only earn points at rates above the “everything else” rate for the first $5,000 in spending you make per month.
Rewards can be redeemed for travel, gift cards, statement credit, and cash back. Travel is the most lucrative redemption method at 1 cent per point redeemed, while the other redemption methods earn around a half-cent per point redeemed. We wish the non-travel rewards redemption options were a bit more robust.
Additionally, if you sign up for a BILL Accounts Payable and/or a BILL Accounts Receivable plan with your BILL Spend & Expense card, you’ll get a $500 statement credit after you spend $500 with your BILL card within 45 days of creating your account.
Note that BILL states that you cannot spend your earned rewards until you’ve had the card for at least 12 months. Plus, to keep any spending rewards you earn in a month, you must spend at least 30% of your credit line for that month.
Furthermore, to redeem your rewards, you’ll need to have accumulated at least 5,000 points.
Finally, you’ll lose any rewards you have in your account if any of the following happens:
While Bill Divvy earns a strong 4.4/5 score in this section, this score would be even higher were it not for all these restrictions and caveats.
Rates & Fees4.5 |

Annual Fee 5.0 |
Other Fees 4.0 |
You won’t be charged any sort of upfront fees with BILL Spend & Expense, such as an account or annual fee or fees for additional employee cards. Accordingly, the card earns a 4.5/5 rating for this category.
Fee | Cost |
---|---|
Annual Fee | N/A |
Account Fee | N/A |
Global ACH Fee | N/A |
Wire Transfer Fee | N/A |
Foreign Transaction Fee | 0.2%-0.9% |
Additional Cards Fee | N/A |
While BILL Spend & Expense doesn’t charge any upfront fees, frequent travelers should note that BILL does charge foreign transaction fees (per an email with Merchant Maverick). Here are the fees you’ll face:
Additionally, late payments will incur a fee of 2.99% or $38, whichever is greater.
BILL does not publicly disclose its foreign transaction fees on its website. The lack of disclosure is unfortunate, and we’d prefer that the company publicly list these fees. That said, we appreciate that they were transparent enough to disclose these fees to us.
We also appreciate the fact that BILL Spend & Expense charges no annual fee, no ACH or wire transfer fee, and does not charge for additional employee cards.
Note that BILL’s AP automation services require a separate paid subscription. Depending on your plan type, BILL’s Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable services sell for $45-55/month/user when purchased individually and $79/user/month when purchased together. Custom pricing is available for the Enterprise plan.

Business Requirements 3.0 |
Personal Guarantee 5.0 |
Beyond requiring businesses to have a US bank account and a US EIN, BILL doesn’t publicly list what types of businesses are eligible to apply (beyond stating that the card suits small-to-mid-sized businesses).
Requirement | Eligibility |
---|---|
Business Type | N/A |
Minimum Annual Income | Varies |
Credit Score | Good to excellent |
Location | US-based |
Cash On Hand | Varies; must typically have $20,000+ in an active account |
Personal Guarantee |
However, BILL let us know that it accepts sole proprietors in addition to corporations and LLCs, so businesses of just about every type are eligible for the service. BILL also notes that an international company may sign up if at least one owner with 25% ownership or more is a US citizen or resident.
Unlike other top corporate credit cards, you must have at least good credit to qualify, though BILL states that it performs a soft credit inquiry on applicants, not a hard inquiry. This way, your credit score won’t be affected by the inquiry.
The other big hurdle to clear is that most applicants will need at least $20K in the bank to qualify. However, this amount can vary depending on your business specifics. Overall, we rated BILL’s eligibility requirements 3.4/5.

There are a few recent reports from customers complaining that the customer service is less personalized than it was before BILL acquired Divvy. However, on the whole, people are still pleased with the level of support they are given from the company. This quality of customer service contributed to our rating of 4.5/5 in this category.

BILL has received solid reviews across the internet from customers. The BILL Divvy card scores 4.5/5 stars on G2 (based on 1,200+ reviews) and 4.7/5 stars on Capterra (based on 400+ reviews).
As for the company’s mobile app, it scores an average of 4.8/5 stars on the Apple App Store (out of 13,600+ total ratings) and 4.6/5 stars on the Google Play Store (out of 2,000+ total ratings). We took this user feedback into account with our user review rating of 4.2/5.
Let’s summarize the most common complaints and compliments the BILL Divvy credit card receives.
BILL itself is not a bank, but it partners with banks for its financial services. In particular, Cross River Bank, an FDIC member, issues BILL’s corporate card. The card also uses the Visa network, which helps protect against fraud. These factors ultimately make working with BILL no less safe than working with a normal bank.
Additionally, BILL uses 256-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to protect customer data. BILL further claims that customer information is stored in secure data centers equipped with “state-of-the-art electronic surveillance and multi-factor access control systems.”
Let’s see how the BILL Divvy Corporate Card stacks up against a few other corporate credit card programs.
In particular, Brex and Ramp offer similar corporate card and expense management platforms, so we’ll be exploring how these services compare with the BILL Divvy card.

BILL Spend & Expense is more than just a corporate card — it also provides some great expense management tools to help almost any business on the market. It boasts a rewards scheme that can save a fair bit of cash, tools to help streamline expenses, and a flexible credit line.
While we don’t like the fact that you can’t use your spending rewards for 12 months, the company’s ability to accommodate a wide variety of business types and its relaxed eligibility requirements (relative to other corporate cards) means that BILL Spend & Expense earns a strong overall score.
Merchant Maverick has been researching and reviewing business credit cards and corporate cards since 2018. Our writers have evaluated over sixty different business card products. In each corporate card review, we evaluate rewards and perks, rates and fees, features, eligibility requirements, customer service, and user reviews. Read more about how we rate corporate cards.
Note: We use a different credit card rating methodology to evaluate traditional business credit cards, as they often differ from corporate cards in benefits, qualifications, and use cases.
When comparing corporate cards, we consider many data points, including the specifics of cash back and spending rewards, the presence of annual fees, the breadth and flexibility of reward redemption options, revenue and time in business qualifications, credit score requirements, and extra perks. Our lists of the best corporate cards include only those we’ve deemed worthwhile from multiple vantage points and often share qualities such as widespread availability, low fees, competitive rewards, and reasonable revenue, cash-on-hand, and time in business requirements.
We spend an average of 10-15 hours researching and updating each one of our lists, making sure the corporate cards included meet our internal standards for quality and reputation.
