The QB GoPayment app and card reader come in handy when you need to take occasional payments on the go. However, its feature set is limited, and without the ability to connect to barcode scanners and other peripherals, we can’t give GoPayment high marks in this category.

The QuickBooks Card Reader is a Bluetooth-enabled device that accepts contactless/NFC payments (including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay) as well as EMV chip cards. This device is compatible with iPhones, iPads, Android phones, and Android tablets. It doesn’t take magstripe payments, but this isn’t much of a problem these days.
The QuickBooks Card Reader can be used with a power stand, which is available for $39 (or $30 if you buy the reader + stand bundle).
The card reader is appropriately priced and does what mobile merchants need it to do. However, GoPayment’s lack of advanced functionality means that non-QB users have better mobile POS options when it comes to features.

Users of QuickBooks GoPayment and its associated card reader have quite positive things to say about the user-friendliness of the device and app. In particular, users appreciate how easy it is to set up the integration with QuickBooks accounting and automatically export all pertinent data, relieving you of the need to do any manual data entry.

QuickBooks’s card reader is reasonably priced, and GoPayments’s processing rates do not include a fixed fee component, which benefits small-ticket merchants. For these reasons, QB GoPayment gets high scores in this category.
The card reader itself costs $49, and you can get the card reader bundled with a power stand for $79. Buy the power stand on its own, and it will cost $39.

However, one of the main value propositions of GoPayment is its seamless integration with QB’s accounting software.

Finally, be aware that Intuit/QuickBooks will assign you a maximum monthly processing limit and possibly a per-transaction limit. To keep your account open, be careful not to go beyond those limits. You can request increases to your limits, but they are issued at QuickBooks’ discretion and may even require you to set up a rolling reserve fund. With QuickBooks, you can log into the web portal and check your processing limit.

What’s more, you no longer need a paid QuickBooks accounting subscription to use GoPayment now that QB’s free QuickBooks Money plan exists.
QuickBooks is improving in the payment space overall, which is a good sign for current and future users. Also, because you’ll have a full merchant account with QuickBooks, you can expect more account stability than with third-party processors like PayPal and Square.
However, as a merchant, you should pay careful attention to your given processing limits and do your best to avoid any potentially suspicious behavior to maximize your account’s stability.

We’re giving GoPayment a 3.7/5 rating. Despite its feature deficiencies (such as its lack of ability to connect to a barcode scanner or receipt printer), its processing rates are quite competitive for sellers with small average ticket sizes, and the easy QB accounting integration makes this mPOS handy for mobile sellers who like QB’s accounting software.
Other sellers may wish to investigate the best mobile POS systems for a more robust mobile sales option.
